As we get older, one of the most beautiful gifts of life is the opportunity to really know ourselves. We start to understand what brings us joy, what grounds us, and what makes our hearts feel full. But here’s the thing—we rarely take the time to harvest these insights.
This week, I decided to do something about that. I used ChatGPT (yes, my kids call it my best friend, my diary, therapist, writing assistant, heckl I’m writing even writing this with my special little friend!) to create a list of all the little things I love. Then, I shared it with my husband—because why not let the people closest to us into the things that light us up?
It was such a joyful process that I want to share a few of my favourites with you. Maybe they’ll inspire you to make your own list, or simply reflect on what makes your life uniquely yours.
Movement & Reflection
For me, movement is more than fitness—it’s a way to connect with myself.
🧘♀️ A calming yoga session to stretch and unwind.
🌅 Watching the sunrise during a peaceful walk.
🛏️ An hour lying in the bedroom, reflecting and figuring things out.
🎶 Listening to a motivational podcast while moving my body.
These little rituals aren’t just about exercise—they’re about creating space to breathe.
Family & Relationships
Nothing fills my cup like the love of family.
🫶 Having all the kids together in one place.
🥰 Cuddles (always).
💋 Kisses on my forehead (because they remind me I’m loved).
💑 My husband—he just gets me.
Sometimes, it’s these simple connections that remind us of what matters most.
Nature & Outdoor Delights
Nature is my reset button. Whether it’s sunshine on my face or grapevines at sunset, these moments fill me with gratitude:
🌊 Seaside walks.
🪴 Growing things in my garden.
🌷 Fresh flowers scattered around the house.
🌌 Stargazing on clear nights.
When life feels overwhelming, nature has a way of reminding us how beautifully simple joy can be.
Comfort & Little Luxuries
We all deserve a bit of indulgence, right?
🛏️ Hotels with comfy beds.
💅 Freshly painted nails (it’s the little things).
🛁 Bubble baths with candles and soft music.
🧥 Wrapping myself in an oversized cardigan or cozy bathrobe.
These moments feel like a hug from the universe, reminding me to pause and enjoy.
Food & Drink
Some of my happiest memories are tied to food:
☕ That first coffee of the morning (pure magic).
🍷 Sparkling wine at sunset.
🍳 A perfectly poached egg on toast.
🍪 Baking cookies and sneaking the dough.
Food has a way of bringing people together, doesn’t it?
Creative & Cozy Moments
There’s something about creativity that feels like home to me:
🎨 Opening a fresh set of watercolour paints.
📝 Writing in a new journal with a fountain pen.
🕯️ Lighting candles and sipping herbal tea.
🎧 Curating playlists that match my mood.
These moments aren’t just hobbies—they’re how I express myself.
Why This Matters
Taking the time to create this list reminded me of something important: When we reconnect with what we love, we reconnect with ourselves. It’s so easy to get caught up in the busy-ness of life that we forget to savor the little joys along the way.
If this idea speaks to you, I encourage you to try it. Sit down, grab a pen (or open your favorite app), and start listing the things that light you up. Then, share it with someone you love. You might be surprised by how much joy it brings.
What’s on your list? I’d love to hear the little things that make your days brighter. Drop a comment or send me a message—I’m always up for a good chat about life’s simple joys.
Here’s to knowing ourselves and celebrating the beauty in the everyday.
With love,
Sarah
